Shelley Maniscalco, MPH, RDN

Shelley has devoted much of her career to helping dietary guidance hit home for the consumer – via research, compelling communications, policy development and implementation, and partnerships. She’s a relationship builder and problem solver with a steadfast mission to support Americans in making personalized and realistic changes that are intuitive and sustainable to confer long-lasting health and wellness benefits.
Shelley’s extensive career in nutrition spans close to three decades. In her early years in DC, she supported key projects involving the Dietary Reference Intakes at the National Academies’ Institute of Medicine. As senior director at the International Food Information Council, Shelley conducted consumer research that informed initiatives related to weight management and dietary guidance. She expanded on this experience while at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, where she led the communications team that launched the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. While there, Shelley also created and grew the USDA/CNPP Nutrition Communicators Network and was a key player on the team that developed MyPlate, a consumer-facing nutritional guide.
In addition to being a RDN, Shelley holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science from The Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Since founding Nutrition On Demand (NOD) in 2016, Shelley has enjoyed using her platform and expertise to support organizations formulating and executing their own health and nutrition mandates. The dynamic world of NOD gives Shelley the flexibility to do the work she loves, while being with the people she loves – her husband, two (quickly growing) daughters, and her feline family members.
